The worldly aims of every cultivated man are hard to attain,

Yet the foolish, inept man's worldly aim comes easily.

And God decreed concerning this world that He would make it yield,

So its pursuit became easy for the ignorant fool.

Thus a man of knowledge and experience is never free

From coarse food or murky drink.

Yet from it the ignorant man enjoys a life of ease,

With pleasant sounds or delightful sights.

Blessed be justice in this world, when He apportions it

    Among humankind in unequal shares.
