مودّةُ إخوانِ النبيذِ سُلافةٌ

مودّةُ إخوانِ النبيذِ سُلافةٌ

يبولونها عند انقضاء المجالسِ

The friendship of drinking companions is choice wine;

The affection of wine drinking friends is pleasant,

They piss it out when the gatherings end.

They urinate it away when the drinking ends,

فبينا نراهم أهلَ إلف وأثْرةٍ

فبينا نراهم أهلَ إلف وأثْرةٍ

وبينا نراهم بينهم حرب داحس

وبينا نراهم بينهم حرب داحس

One moment we see them as men of affection and favor;

While we see them as people of friendliness and influence,

And another, we see the war of Dahis among them.

While we see them fighting among themselves like Dahis and Ghabra

فأمّا إذا نادينهم لملمّةٍ

فأمّا إذا نادينهم لملمّةٍ

فنادُوا التصاويرَ التي في الكنائس

فنادُوا التصاويرَ التي في الكنائس

But when you call upon them in a calamity,

But when called upon for an attack

Then call upon the images in the churches.

They call upon the icons in churches.
