    بل تعاطيتَهُ بلا مفتاحِ

    Tell Nujh: you missed the door to success;

rather, you tried it without a key.

    فاصْحُ عنها فَقَلْبُهَا عنك صاحي

    Waddan does not love a eunuch;

so sober up about her: her heart is sober toward you.

She desires intercourse, and rubbing is your utmost

effort with her—and rubbing is counterfeit intercourse.

You are no accomplished swimmer, so leave

    riding the seas to swimmers.

Castration has stranded the eunuch, just as

losing his punting pole strands the boatman.

I wish I knew with what you think you can charm

    Waddan's heart, O broken-winged one.

Is it with a face like a monkey's face,

faded in color, its lamp gone out?

What a defense against birds it would be, if

they set it as a scarecrow in an open field!

It has two freckled cheeks, far—

by my life—from the redness of apples.

    Freckling over yellowness—you see it

like fly droppings on mandrake fruit.

Or with a cock that castration fell upon,

sparing nothing, so it was utterly laid waste?

Or with a frame shaped like a wineskin,

made broader by your bulging belly?

You are not among those with cocks, that she should love

you, nor among those with handsome faces.

Who will defend me against your wrongs, you company of eunuchs,

when you seek union with beautiful women?

    ما غَنَاءُ الفِقَاح في الأحْرَاحِ

    You are nothing but anuses, so hold back;

what use are anuses to vulvas?

Indeed, one who loves women without a cock

is like a warrior without a weapon.

    فاتركوا الطَّعن للطِّوال الرماحِ

    There can be no thrusting except with a spear;

so leave thrusting to men with long spears.

Your giving of pouches has gone astray, O Nujh,

and dust-scattering winds have carried it away.

You give, and that woman gives the gifts

of yours to every well-hung, vigorous lover.

And whenever you seek a favor from her,

she denies you everything that is freely allowed.

How often you have longed for a kiss upon her vulva,

while it bears bleeding wounds from that man's cock.

When neither of them praised you then, but

both praised the scent of your far-wafting perfume.

He spent the night playing with her, and she spent it singing:

May the eunuch's face fail on salvation's day,

when he meets his God, not having been begotten

by a righteous man, nor having begotten a righteous child.

No believing father is counted for him, nor a son

who believes—his lot-arrow has lost among the arrows.

The only praise eunuchs earn among people is

their great endurance when their anuses are split.

A company who resemble monkeys, but

differ from them in lightness of spirit.

He said, amid his talk, as in earnest

the fronts of their pubic mounds butted together:

"How does this compare with Nujh's rubbing?" She said:

"The paths of earnestness are not the paths of play."
