نوْكٌ وغَيٌّ وعيُّ

نوْكٌ وغَيٌّ وعيُّ

وأنت مَعْ ذا دَعيُّ

Stupidity, waywardness, and inarticulacy—

Dreaminess, flowery speech, and languor,

and besides all this, you are a bastard.

While you, with this supplication, are

عما قليل سينبو

عما قليل سينبو

بك الفراشُ الوَطيُّ

بك الفراشُ الوَطيُّ

Before long, it will grow uncomfortable—

Before long will be covered

for you, the soft bed.

By a narrow grave, the lowliest of lowly places.

لو كنت تعقِل ما في

لو كنت تعقِل ما في

كَ أيُّهَذَا المُسيُّ

كَ أيُّهَذَا المُسيُّ

If you understood what is in

If you but realized your own true state,

you, O evildoer,

O bewildered one astray,

لم يصفُ عيشُك لكنْ

لم يصفُ عيشُك لكنْ

عيشُ الغَبِيِّ هَنيُّ

عيشُ الغَبِيِّ هَنيُّ

your life would not be untroubled; but

You would not live as you are living now,

the fool’s life is pleasant.

But as the simplest of simpletons live.
