Say to the vizier—may God perpetuate his good fortune—

Consider Ibn Furat and Ibn Abdun.

Rather, you have already considered them; so do not shortchange the better of the two,

for a man of judgment is not cheated of his share.

Do you not see in Ibn Furat the clear marks

of a resolute, trustworthy man, reliable when out of sight?

We know him to be strong and trustworthy in hand

and judgment, in all matters known and surmised.

In him are suppleness and sharpness, which ensure

that he neither betrays nor acquiesces in humiliation.

He is like a sword, unsheathed when you wield it—

as smooth on both sides and as keen as you could wish.
