Say to the Commander of the Faithful, accustomed

to God's care, ever watchful over him:

Rejoice in God's outwitting every schemer

on your behalf, and live as long as the mountains endure.

You have found support in the strongest of arms—

in God, your protector—to slay your foes.

O wedding feast of the world and festival of festivals!

Your kingdom stands firmly staked through all time,

Secure in glory, its boughs thick with leaves.

Here is Abu al-Najm, like a blazing star,

And Ibn Sulayman, whose equals are few.

Both stand at your service, abundant in aid:

Whatever you wish of good fortune and compliant counsel,

Of bringing wealth and leading armies.

Thickets of victory around a charging lion,

Whose fortune is charged with laying other fortunes low,

With a guide to whatever right course he desires—

Lion of the thicket and dragon of the valley,

Rain for mankind, for townsman and nomad alike.

He has a cloud that rains before it thunders.

    يفْلِقُ أرواحَ العدا في الأجسادْ

    The awe he inspires batters the vitals;

He cleaves his enemies' souls within their bodies.

And his bounty engulfs the bounty of the generous,

And raises the dead with those gifts.

May God make him a mote in the eyes of the envious,

And may he live in ever-increasing prosperity,

Among able helpers and valiant men.

For when he is reckoned, he is the peerless of the peerless.

And let him humble the sinners, the people of heresy.

    Reform has effaced all corruption,

    And banished wickedness utterly.

And God alone is unfailing in His promise.
