اُرْدُدْ عليَّ قراطيسي ممزقّةً

اُرْدُدْ عليَّ قراطيسي ممزقّةً

كيما تكونَ رُؤوساً للدَّساتيجِ

كيما تكونَ رُؤوساً للدَّساتيجِ

Return my sheets of paper to me, torn up,

Return to me my torn papers

So that they may serve as lids for the jars;

So they may be notes of inspiration

فإن ذلك أجدى من تشاغلها

فإن ذلك أجدى من تشاغلها

بحفظ مدحك يا علجَ الفلاليجِ

بحفظ مدحك يا علجَ الفلاليجِ

For that is more useful than their being occupied

For that is better than preoccupying them

With preserving praise of you, O lout of the farmlands.

With praising you, healer of the afflicted
