Our poet Khalid's arse serves
other purposes besides defecation.
يُغنِّيhe sings to الندامىthe drinking companions بهاwith it تارةًsometimes
يُغنِّي الندامى بها تارةً
ويؤْتَىand he is penetrated علىdespite شيبهhis grey hair الواخِطِstreaking
ويؤْتَى على شيبه الواخِطِ
At times he sings to his drinking companions with it,
and is fucked despite the grey streaking his hair.
يُقضِّيhe fulfills بهاwith it الشيخُthe old man أوطارَهُhis desires
يُقضِّي بها الشيخُ أوطارَهُ
برغمdespite المعنِّفِthe rebuker والساخِطِand the indignant one
برغم المعنِّفِ والساخِطِ
With it the old man satisfies his desires,
despite the rebuker and the indignant.
ولمand has not يهجُرِabandoned الشيخُthe old man لذَّاتِهِhis pleasures
ولم يهجُرِ الشيخُ لذَّاتِهِ
ويجفُnor shunned المعاصيsins كالقانطِlike one who despairs
ويجفُ المعاصي كالقانطِ
And the old man has not abandoned his pleasures,
nor shunned sins like one who despairs.
لهhe has زوجةa wife شرَّthe worst ماindeed (emphatic) زوجةٍa wife
له زوجة شرَّ ما زوجةٍ
تلقَّطهاpicked her up شرُّthe worst ماindeed (emphatic) لاقطِpicker
تلقَّطها شرُّ ما لاقطِ
He has a wife, the very worst of wives,
picked up by the very worst of pickers.
مشهَّرةٌnotorious لوif مشىwalked خَلْفَهاbehind her
مشهَّرةٌ لو مشى خَلْفَها
نبيٌّa prophet لَقيلَit would surely be said لهof him شارطa constable
نبيٌّ لَقيلَ له شارط
So notorious that, if behind her walked
a prophet, they would call him a constable.
تُناكshe is fucked وقَرنانُهاwhile her cuckold حاضرٌis present
تُناك وقَرنانُها حاضرٌ
بمنزلةin the position of الغائبِthe absent one الشاحِطfar away
بمنزلة الغائبِ الشاحِط
She is fucked while her cuckold is present,
as good as absent and far away.
فإنand if غارَhe grows jealous قالتْsays لهto him نفسُهُhis own soul
فإن غارَ قالتْ له نفسُهُ

كصبرlike the endurance of البعيرthe camel علىunder الضاغطthe chafing sore
كصبر البعير على الضاغط
And you endure humiliation's bite
as a camel endures its chafing sore.
أذلَّكَhas abased you حُبُّكyour love of عُجرَknobs الفياthe cocks (word begins)
أذلَّكَ حُبُّك عُجرَ الفيا
شِ(ending of 'cocks') ياO ابنَson المَقاوِلthe chieftains منfrom نَاعطNa'it
شِ يا ابنَ المَقاوِل من نَاعط
Your love of knobby cocks has abased you,
O son of the chieftains of Na'it.
حلفتُI swear لئنindeed, if لمnot تكنyou are ساقطاًa lowlife
حلفتُ لئن لم تكن ساقطاً
فماthen there is not فيin البريّةcreation منany ساقطlowlife
فما في البريّة من ساقط
I swear: if you are not a lowlife,
there is no lowlife in all creation.
لئنindeed, if لزَّكhas thrust you الجهلُignorance فيinto عُقدةٍa knot
لئن لزَّك الجهلُ في عُقدةٍ
منof الشرِّevil تأبىrefuses to yield علىto الناشطthe untier
من الشرِّ تأبى على الناشط
If ignorance has thrust you into a knot
of evil that defies anyone who would untie it,
لكمْindeed, how many أهلكhas destroyed الجهلُignorance منof جاهلٍan ignorant man
لكمْ أهلك الجهلُ من جاهلٍ
وكمand how many أوْرطَhas ensnared الليلُthe night منof خابطِone stumbling blindly
وكم أوْرطَ الليلُ من خابطِ
how many an ignorant man has ignorance destroyed,
and how many a stumbling wanderer has night ensnared!
ومثلكand someone like you فيin النُّوكstupidity قدindeed كادنيplotted against me
ومثلك في النُّوك قد كادني
فأصبحand he ended up ذاpossessing عملٍwork حابِطِfruitless
فأصبح ذا عملٍ حابِطِ
And one as stupid as you once plotted against me,
only for all his efforts to come to nothing.
