يا من له صَفوات الحسنِ والخِيَرُ
ومنand you who تَصاغرَdwindled عنهbeside him الشمسthe sun والقمرُand the moon
ومن تَصاغرَ عنه الشمس والقمرُ
O you who possess the qualities of beauty and goodness,
O you who possess the choicest beauty and finest qualities,
before whom the sun and moon have humbled themselves,
and beside whom the sun and moon have dwindled,
أحسْنُdoes the beauty وجهكof your face ينميgrow لاno انتهاءَend لهto it
أحسْنُ وجهك ينمي لا انتهاءَ له
أمor هلdo تعاقبهُsucceed one another upon it فيin ساعةan hour صورforms
أم هل تعاقبهُ في ساعة صور
does the beauty of your face keep growing, with no end to it,
Does your face’s beauty grow without end,
or do forms alternate upon it within a single hour?
or do forms succeed one another upon it within an hour?
