O you who offer beautiful praise,

    in which truth joins embellishment,

thankful for the bounty of one forgiving and lavish,

whose generosity is a scented necklace on every neck:

I spoke words admitting no doubt,

    delightful, well received, beyond reproach:

No one can do full justice to the man you extol,

unless a mirage can be made the equal of water.

No, nor can any giver of bounty draw

near him until the raven turns gray.

Where in the world is a sage so generous?

Where is he? Nowhere—nothing but falsehood.

His judgment is a lamp of radiant light,

and his hands a gateway to abundant rain.

So from him we have the choicest knowledge,

and from him we have lavish gifts.

    دونها في كلّ ذاك سحابُ

    So he is a sun whose praise gives light;

beneath it, amid all this, lie clouds.

Beneath it are two opposites: clear skies and cloud.

This is indeed a wondrous thing!

I marvel at the sun—how can it shine forth,

when a veil of cloud lies over it?

He does good, and its praise is spread,

and feels he has undervalued it unless it is rewarded,

    forever, until gifts weary

those who seek them, and all reckoning ends.

Indeed, whoever calls for lofty praise

for Abu Isa is a caller whose call is answered.
