O you of sweet mouth and saliva,

Satisfy a need of ours in return for a need.

Take some of our dinars and sell us

A fuck, and spare us the wrangling.

And you, my lord, are a bargain,

Even at the price of Chosroes bestowing his crown upon you.

Stop by our place; we shall have lunch,

And put the lute and the bottle to work.

O handsome-faced one, do not act ugly,

Lest you spoil beauty with ugliness.

Is he who denies me my need handsome,

    Free of hatred and coarseness?

And my need for him is only

    A rooster's need for a hen.
