أيا شجرات الله ليس بقاطعٍ

أيا شجرات الله ليس بقاطعٍ

لك الدهر شرباً أنت فيه شوارع

لك الدهر شرباً أنت فيه شوارع

O trees of God, Time will not cut off

O trees of God, there is no cutter for you

your allotted water, at which you gather to drink.

Time is a drink for you, and you are its streets

تَحيَّر دُفَّاعٌ من الماء خلفه

تَحيَّر دُفَّاعٌ من الماء خلفه

لسقياك دُفَّاع له متدافعُ

لسقياك دُفَّاع له متدافعُ

A mighty torrent of water has pooled; behind it,

A bucket wanders confused behind you

another torrent surges toward it to water you.

To water you, a rushing bucket follows you

إذا قدَّر الجُهَّال وشكَ انقطاعه

إذا قدَّر الجُهَّال وشكَ انقطاعه

أتى مددٌ من ربه متتابع

أتى مددٌ من ربه متتابع

Whenever the ignorant think its flow will soon cease,

If the ignorant decree and doubt its cessation

fresh supplies come from its Lord, one after another.

Help comes from your Lord, continually

فلا يرتجي الأعداء فيكم رجاءهم

فلا يرتجي الأعداء فيكم رجاءهم

فليس لغرس الله في العرش قالع

فليس لغرس الله في العرش قالع

So your enemies cannot hope for what they wish against you,

So let not enemies hope in you their hopes

for none can uproot God's planting in the Throne.

For God's plants in the Throne have no uprooter

ولا يطمع الحساد في قطع شربكم

ولا يطمع الحساد في قطع شربكم

فليس لما أجرت يد الله قاطع

فليس لما أجرت يد الله قاطع

Nor can the envious hope to cut off your allotted water,

And let not the envious hope to cut off your drinking

for none can stop what God's hand has set flowing.

For what God's hand has flowed has no cutter

يد الله درع لا تزال تقيكمُ

يد الله درع لا تزال تقيكمُ

وترس لكم ترفَضُّ عنه القوارع

وترس لكم ترفَضُّ عنه القوارع

God's hand is a coat of mail that never ceases to protect you,

God's hand is armor that always protects you

and a shield for you, from which calamities scatter away.

And a shield for you that repels assaults

وليست على ما يحفظ الله ضيعة

وليست على ما يحفظ الله ضيعة

ولكن ما لا يحفظ الله ضائع

ولكن ما لا يحفظ الله ضائع

And nothing that God protects can come to ruin,

And there is no negligence in what God protects

but whatever God does not protect is lost.

But what God does not protect is lost

تعيشون ما عشتم وللحبل واصل

تعيشون ما عشتم وللحبل واصل

تقوم به الدنيا وللشمل جامع

تقوم به الدنيا وللشمل جامع

As long as you live, the cord has one to join it,

You live as long as you have lived, and the rope remains connected

through whom the world stands, and the scattered have one to unite them;

The world continues by it, and it unifies the community

وللدين أنصار وللملك شيعةٌ

وللدين أنصار وللملك شيعةٌ

وللعرف معطاء وللجار مانع

وللعرف معطاء وللجار مانع

the faith has helpers, and kingship has supporters,

And for religion there are supporters, and for the kingdom partisans

kindness a lavish giver, and the neighbor a defender.

And for customs there is a giver, and for the neighbor a preventer

وما تتقذّاكم عيونٌ جليّةٌ

وما تتقذّاكم عيونٌ جليّةٌ

ولا تلفِظُ التقريظَ فيكم مسامع

ولا تلفِظُ التقريظَ فيكم مسامع

And no clear eyes find you a troublesome mote,

And no unveiled eyes gaze at you

nor do ears spit out praise spoken of you.

Nor do ears utter congratulations among you
