O Khalid, son of those whose disgraces endure,

As long as the sky's shadow remains above the earth.

God bless you—what a master of cunning!

In this, you have become one of the sages.

When the disgrace in which you were clothed became

The talk of riders and assemblies,

You deliberately exposed your honor to the poets,

So that it might be called the poets' fabrication.

Do not be pleased with what you have done, for you have only

Treated your ailment, O wretch, with another ailment.
