يا آل نُوبَخْتَ كفُّوا من غزالكُم

يا آل نُوبَخْتَ كفُّوا من غزالكُم

عنِّي فلم يتَّرِكْ قلباً ولا جسدا

عنِّي فلم يتَّرِكْ قلباً ولا جسدا

O family of Nubakht, restrain your gazelle

O people of Nubukht, stop your gazelles from me,

from me, for he has spared neither heart nor body.

For they have left neither heart nor body for me,

أنا الصديق الذي لا شك فيه فلِمْ

أنا الصديق الذي لا شك فيه فلِمْ

أورثتموني على وُدِّي لكم كمدا

أورثتموني على وُدِّي لكم كمدا

I am the friend beyond doubt—so why

I am the true friend who is beyond doubt,

have you bequeathed me anguish despite my love for you?

So why have you bequeathed me, in your love for me, anguish?

ردُّوا عليَّ فؤادي قد أُصبتُ به

ردُّوا عليَّ فؤادي قد أُصبتُ به

أو حاكموني وإلا فابذلوا القَوَدَا

أو حاكموني وإلا فابذلوا القَوَدَا

Return my heart to me; I have suffered its loss.

Return my heart to me, for I have been struck by it,

Or meet me in court; otherwise, grant me life-for-life retribution.

Or pass judgement on me, or else face the consequences,

لئن تَصيَّدَني ظبيٌ بمقلته

لئن تَصيَّدَني ظبيٌ بمقلته

لقد تَصيدُ الظِّبا من قَبْله الأسدا

لقد تَصيدُ الظِّبا من قَبْله الأسدا

If indeed a gazelle has hunted me with his eye,

If a gazelle ensnares me with its eyelashes,

gazelles have indeed hunted lions before him.

The lions before it have already ensnared gazelles,

استودع الله من لو شاء أنصفني

استودع الله من لو شاء أنصفني

وردّ قلبي وأَولاني بذاك يدا

وردّ قلبي وأَولاني بذاك يدا

I entrust to God the one who, had he wished, would have done me justice

I entrust to God whoever, if He willed, would do me justice,

and returned my heart, and thereby bestowed a favor on me.

And return my heart and extend to me a helping hand.
