My two eyes, let no pearls fall from you.
My eyes do not gleam with tears,
And ally yourselves with sleep; let sleeplessness not sting you.
And swearing to sleep does not quell your vigilance.

And O my sorrows, seek a refuge other than my mind.
And my worries, seek refuge other than my soul,
For today no place within me will shelter you.
For grief will not house you in me today.

أوائلَthe early days of الدهرtime أحداثٌevents لهof its own أُخرُother
Effaced is every crime perpetrated and committed
Time has pardoned all sins I committed in my early days,
in time's early days—by its later events.
While the latter part of life has others.

O our Time, every crime you perpetrate
Oh our time, you are the culprit of every sin,
is forgiven after your sweeping away of Abu Hassān.
After the departure of my father Hasan the absolved.

Your arrow struck, in him, the worst of those borne
Your arrow has struck worse than the one
by a female, and those a male held within his loins.
That hit a female or the one housed in a male's loins.

When he lay buried, the earth's belly loathed his carcass.
When he was shrouded, the earth's belly welcomed his corpse,
But Saqar welcomed his soul with delight.
But his absence pained hell itself.
فهذهfor this one رَهِبتْfeared منbecause of أنthat يحلّhe should dwell بهاwithin her

For the former feared, should he dwell within her,
This one now fears the rain would not
that rain would withhold its bounty from her fertile soil.
Grace its barren land.

And the latter rejoiced and exulted, confident
While that rejoiced, hopeful
that her heat and flames would be doubled by his soul.
That heat and hellfire will subside.

I said, when he was carried off, as there began
I say, for what caused his death, though you made
to spread among the people the news of his death:
News of his destruction spread amongst people,

Death upon him—not upon a fierce, hulking lion
It is not because of Dergham Khunaibis
seeking to devour me, with no refuge for me against it.
Who seeks to prey on me and my burdens.
