شكريmy gratitude عتيدٌready وكذاكand likewise حِقْدِيmy rancor
للخيرfor good والشرِّand evil بقاءٌendurance عنديwith me
My gratitude is ready, and so is my rancor.
My gratitude and hatred alike endure,
Good and evil both remain with me.
Good and evil both have a place with me.
فانظرso consider إذاwhen أسْديتَyou bestowed ماذاwhat تُسْدِيyou bestow
فإنfor indeed شكميmy recompense مثلهlike it وشكديand my gifts
So consider, when you bestow, what you bestow.
So see what you reap when you sow your seed,
For my recompense and my gifts match it.
For my nature is just the same as my creed.
كالأرضlike the earth مهماwhatever استُودِعتit is entrusted with تؤدِّيit gives back
وأينand where عنaway from طينتناour clay نُعَدِّيwe turn aside
Like the earth, which yields whatever is entrusted to it.
Like the earth whatever is sown in its stead
And where can we turn away from our clay?
It faithfully yields as was destined to be.
وماand not طباعيmy nature بالطباعof the nature الصلدِhard and barren
لاnot ينبتsprouts البذرُthe seed ولكنbut rather يُكديit yields nothing
And my nature is not the hard, barren kind,
How can we swerve from the clay we were kneaded,
Where seed does not sprout, but yields nothing.
What's sown cannot sprout but rather impede it.
أحفظُI preserve للأعداءfor enemies والأودِّand the dearest friend
ماwhat استودعواthey entrusted منof بِغْضَةٍhatred ووُدِّand love
I preserve, for enemies and the dearest friend,
For friend and for foe alike I will keep,
Whatever hatred and love they have entrusted to me,
All the love and the hate they entrusted me,
وماand what أتواthey did منof غَيَّةٍwrongdoing ورشْدِand right conduct
وخيرُand the best حوضbasin منamong حياضbasins نجدِNajd
And whatever they have done, whether wrong or right.
And whatever they came with of harm or true heed,
And the best basin among the basins of Najd
Better a pool than rain channels of Nejd,

Is the one that holds water best on the day of watering,
I'll keep it for water on days parched of need,
Whether sweet, stagnant, or thick and yellowish.
Be it pure or murky or evil indeed.

What will the speakers say after me?
What more can be said after all I concede!
