Many a faultfinder has found fault with me, speaking truth,

And turned away from me, though his own fault is worse.

He accused me of a flaw I do not pass on to my companion,

Nor is it something acquired or earned.

Yet he bears an evil within him that he passes on to others,

And draws upon himself; evil spreads and is brought on.

That is simply his reviling people of his own free will,

And those who revile people have always been reviled.

How great the difference between one whose evil reaches beyond him,

Intending what he does, acting unjustly and stirring strife,

And another whose flaw does not reach beyond him, seeking

The removal of what is held against him and lamented.
