لِيَكفِكَlet it suffice you حاسداًan envier حَسَدُهْhis envy
لِيَكفِكَ حاسداً حَسَدُهْ

وما تَصْلى به كَبِدُهْ
Let an envier's envy suffice you against him,
To stop an envier envying,
And that which makes his liver burn.
And the liver he prays with,
فلوfor if أسْعرتهyou set him ablaze ناراًfire
فلو أسْعرته ناراً
لكانتthen it would be دونless than ماwhat يجدُهْhe feels it
لكانت دون ما يجدُهْ
For if you burned him with fire,
If I set him on fire,
It would fall short of what he feels.
It would be less than what he feels,

And many an envious man grins at me,
And he who envies me closely,
While beneath his heart lies his ambush.

He spends the night, whenever he remembers me,
When he remembers me at night,
With Khaybar's fever visiting him.
The fever of Khaibar burns him,

ويرمَدُ حين يبصرني

فَدام بعينه رَمدُهْ
And his eyes grow inflamed when he sees me—
And he throws me angry looks,
So may the inflammation in his eye endure!
May his eyes be forever sore,

I strike the very center of his vital spot,
I care not if he perishes,
Though I do not deliberately aim at it.
For I do not rely on him.
