نجا يونسُ في اللجَّـ

ـة من حاوية الحوتِ

Jonah escaped in the deep

from the whale’s belly,

بتسبيحٍ له مُنجٍ

بتسبيحٍ له مُنجٍ

وعتهُ أذُنُ الحوتِ

وعتهُ أذُنُ الحوتِ

through praise of God that saved him,

which the whale’s ear retained.

فكم نوعٍ من الآفا

فكم نوعٍ من الآفا

تِ مصروفٍ عن الحوتِ

تِ مصروفٍ عن الحوتِ

So many kinds of affliction

are warded off from the whale!

وحيتانكُمُ نَسْلٌ

وحيتانكُمُ نَسْلٌ

أتى من ذلك الحُوتِ

أتى من ذلك الحُوتِ

And your whales are offspring

descended from that whale.

وقد حُزْنَ من التسبيـ

وقد حُزْنَ من التسبيـ

ـح ميراثاً عن الحوتِ

ـح ميراثاً عن الحوتِ

And they have gained a share of that praise

as a legacy from the whale;

فما إن يطمع الصَّيا

فما إن يطمع الصَّيا

دُ في ذُرِّيَّةِ الحوتِ

دُ في ذُرِّيَّةِ الحوتِ

so the fisherman has no hope at all

of catching the whale’s offspring.
