فأيْقِنْ بحقٍّ أنَّهُ لِطَبيبِ
If ever you see the world as an apricot orchard,
When you see life as a garden of apricots
Then be certain, in truth, that it belongs to a physician.
Know for certain that it belongs to Time
يُغِلُّyields لهfor him ماwhat لاnot يُغِلُّyields لربهِfor its owner
يُغِلُّ له ما لا يُغِلُّ لربهِ
يُغِلّyields مريضاًa sick patient حَمْلُthe fruit كلِّevery قضيبِbranch
يُغِلّ مريضاً حَمْلُ كلِّ قضيبِ
It yields him what it does not yield its owner:
Who bears for it what he does not bear his Lord
The fruit of every branch yields a sick patient.
The burden of every walking stick bears a sick man
