I said to a fair young woman whose guest I once was,

one from a house of the loftiest nobility—

a plump calf of hers had come into view,

    as though she walked on castor stalks;

a heavy rump of hers followed behind,

and most of a finger would sink into her—

“O mistress of the house, have you

any food for the cock, or anything to tempt it?”

She said, “On how many branches do you stand?”

    So I replied in a keen-witted speaker’s words:

    فهل تقومون على أربع

    “Your guest stands upright on three;

will you then stand on all fours?”

She said, “Yes, by God, O my burier

and my protector from the shame of being laid low!

We are healthy, without any ailment,

so what have we now to do with a bed?”

I said, “You have indeed spoken—come, do it!”

And what a rump was there, not yet laid open!

A rump—when it meets you, presented as a target,

desire says to him, “Rise and thrust!”

So I kept soothing her burning desires

with something like a bald man’s head.

And the best hospitality a freeborn woman offers you

is to put the bald one into the wide-cleft one.

    Fine hospitality, that—but it

suits the sated, not the hungry.

I think she is the mother of the young man Mudrik,

the eloquent orator of the men of letters.

That is the woman: if my cockhead turned aside

from her wide hole, it would go unpatched.

Tomorrow the shameless pander will see what this brings:

he will be disgraced and meet humiliation in the assembly.

Had he not been doomed, he would have been

out of my sight and out of my hearing.
