رأيتُ الناسَ أكرَمهم عليهِم

ذوو الأجسام والصُّوَرِ الحسانِ

I have seen that those whom people honor most

I saw the people, the most generous among them,

Are those with beautiful bodies and faces.

Were those with beautiful bodies and forms.

يَرُوعهمُ الطَّريرُ إذا رأَوْهُ

يَرُوعهمُ الطَّريرُ إذا رأَوْهُ

كأنّهمُ نساؤهمُ الزواني

كأنّهمُ نساؤهمُ الزواني

A handsome man awes them when they see him,

They startle at the slightest sound when they hear it,

As though they were their own adulterous women.

As if they were unfaithful women.
