I find myself blessed with good fortune, O son of Sa‘id,

and he is not far from receiving my thanks.

I shall offer my thanks once, then offer them again,

to one who begins acts of kindness and repeats them.

A young man—a first kindness from his deeds came my way,

in which I found the joy I feel on a feast-day morning.

Through him, land whose soil is foul grows sweet,

and land already sweet grows sweeter still in its soil.

So do not deem my praise, with my thanks, slow in coming; for it

is surely between two constant companions, one of each.

When my soul feels safe from the threats of its time,

relying on Ibn Sa‘id, it is frightened by no threat.
