I don my forbearance when I don it,

until you see me with my pulse stilled,

as though both my hands had been shackled

from the motions of opening and closing,

fearing for a threadbare garment worn away by decay—

so one part of it weeps over another.

I creep along while it cries out,

complaining and begging to be excused from running.

O taylasan cloak, to which I am wholly devoted,

I darn it with allotted funds and with loans.

How long will you remain so afflicted

with consumption, neither living nor dying?

Through darning you, I have become like one

who hopes for butter by churning water.
