وضرطةُ وهبٍ من الحادثاتِ

وضرطةُ وهبٍ من الحادثاتِ

إذا ذُكرتْ حادثاتُ الزَّمنْ

إذا ذُكرتْ حادثاتُ الزَّمنْ

And Wahb's fart is among the calamities,

And a blast of incidents

when the calamities of time are recounted.

When the incidents of time are mentioned

أهذا الغلاء وهذا البلاءُ

أهذا الغلاء وهذا البلاءُ

وهذا الضُّراط وهذي الفتنْ

وهذا الضُّراط وهذي الفتنْ

Must there be this high cost and this affliction,

Is this the expensiveness and this the affliction

and this farting and these tribulations?

And this the wind and these the strife

إليك المعوَّلُ والمشتكى

إليك المعوَّلُ والمشتكى

فَمُنَّ بعفوك يا ذا المِنَنْ

فَمُنَّ بعفوك يا ذا المِنَنْ

On you we rely, and to you we complain;

To you is the relied upon and the complained to

so bestow your pardon, O giver of favors.

So bestow with your forgiveness O owner of bounty

أيا آل وهبٍ لقد رعتُمُ

أيا آل وهبٍ لقد رعتُمُ

عظامَ النُّواسيِّ أعني الحسن

عظامَ النُّواسيِّ أعني الحسن

O family of Wahb, you have indeed frightened

Oh family of Wahb, you have pastured

the bones of al-Nuwasi—I mean al-Hasan.

The bones of Al-Nuwasi, meaning Al-Hassan

فأقسم لو كان حيّاً بكى

فأقسم لو كان حيّاً بكى

بما صنعتْ ريحكم بالدمن

بما صنعتْ ريحكم بالدمن

So I swear: were he alive, he would weep

So I swear if he were alive he would have cried

at what your wind has done to the ruined campsites.

For what your wind has done with blood
