وذاك الذي ألقاك من خطَراته

out of contempt, never bringing you to mind as a passing thought,

Made you cheap, did not make you cross his mind

أصمُّ صُمَيميتٌ إذا ما سألتَه

أصمُّ صُمَيميتٌ إذا ما سألتَه

حسِبتك ساءلتَ الرسومَ الدوارسا

حسِبتك ساءلتَ الرسومَ الدوارسا

is deaf, utterly deaf: whenever you question him,

Deaf, deafened, if you were to ask him

I would think you had questioned the worn-away traces of ruins.

You'd think you asked swirling pictures
