وفقحة كالحوت في ابتلاعها

وفقحة كالحوت في ابتلاعها

يعجز بيت المال عن إشباعها

يعجز بيت المال عن إشباعها

And an anus like a whale in its swallowing:

Like a whale in its devouring,

The treasury cannot sate it

The treasury cannot satisfy its craving,

من الغراميل وعن إرضاعها

من الغراميل وعن إرضاعها

ماء الرجال غاية ارتضاعها

ماء الرجال غاية ارتضاعها

With penises, or suckle it

For trinkets or for suckling it,

With men's semen to the full extent of its suckling.

Men's water is the limit of its suckling.

يعوي عبيد الله من إضباعها

يعوي عبيد الله من إضباعها

واسعة الخرق على رقاعها

واسعة الخرق على رقاعها

ʿUbayd Allāh howls because it is in heat.

Ubaydullah bellows because of its milking,

Its rent is too wide for its menders;

Capacious in the rents of its patches,

فالأرض كالبقعة من بقاعها

فالأرض كالبقعة من بقاعها

لو ذرعت شقت على ذُرّاعها

لو ذرعت شقت على ذُرّاعها

So the earth is like a patch among its tracts.

So the earth is like a region of its regions

Were it measured, it would tax its measurers.

If it were measured it would tear at its cubits

فهو سخي النفس عن إقطاعها

فهو سخي النفس عن إقطاعها

ليت لعينيه من اتساعها

ليت لعينيه من اتساعها

So he is generous in granting it away as land.

Thus he is generous of spirit against depriving it

If only his eyes had of its breadth

Would that his eyes had, of its wideness,

ما لاستِهِ من صحنها وقاعها

ما لاستِهِ من صحنها وقاعها

What his arse has of its expanse and floor.

What his desire has of its bowl and basin.
