فكاد يَحْرِقُهُ من فرط إذكاءِ
And a poet in whom natural talent kindled intelligence,
A poet whose innate gifts were fanned to flame,
Till it nearly burned him, so fiercely was it kindled.
The blaze well-nigh consumed him in its maw.

وفسَّر الماءَ بعد الجَهْدِ بالماءِ
He kept straining his poetic gift for days,
Long days he strained his talents to the full,
And, after all that effort, explained water by water.
And, spent, could only explicate water with water.
