له دموعُ المحدِّقِ الشاكي

And a narcissus, smiling like mouths,

A narcissus like smiling lips

has the tears of one who stares and laments.

With teardrops of the sorrowful admirer

أبكاهُ قطرُ الندى وأضْحكَهُ

فهْوَ مع القطر ضاحكٌ باكي

Drops of dew made it weep and made it laugh;

Dewdrops made it weep and made it laugh

so with the drops it laughs and weeps.

So it laughs and cries with the drops
