All we gained from your conquests, O Sulayma,
Through your conquests, O Suleiman,
was that you stayed safe and congratulated us.
We have obtained that you greet us and congratulate us,
إذاwhen حَمِيَgrew hot الوطيسُthe furnace of battle نَجَوْتِyou escaped رَكضاًat a run
وغادرتِand you left الكماةthe armored warriors مُجَدَّليناstruck down
When the furnace of battle grew hot, you escaped at a run,
If the dust rises, you will escape running away,
and left the armored warriors struck down.
And leave the enemy confused about us.
فلاso may … not وألتْescaped هنالكَthere نَفْسa soul سُوءٍof evil
عليهاfor it ياO سُلَيْمُSulaym تُحاذريناyou fear
So may that vile soul find no escape there—
So no evil soul remained there,
the one you fear for, O Sulaym.
O Suleiman, you must beware of us.
هيit النَّفْسُthe soul التيthat إماif أُصيبتْis struck down
فأهونُthen the lightest ماwhat تصيبbefalls المسلميناthe Muslims
It is the soul that, if struck down,
It is the soul that was hit,
would be the lightest loss to befall the Muslims.
The least of what hits the Muslims.
