باس تنجو من آفة التكديرِ

A blessing like God's in al-‘Abbas could not

The grace of God was never like the comfort

Escape the blight of being marred.

That saves from the affliction of turbulence

كدّر الدهرُ صفوها بعبيد ال

كدّر الدهرُ صفوها بعبيد ال

لَه وجهِ الحمار والخنزير

لَه وجهِ الحمار والخنزير

Time clouded its purity with ‘Ubayd Allah,

Time has disturbed its serenity with slaves

That face of a donkey and a pig.

With the face of a donkey and a pig

غير أنا نرجو لراحتنا من

غير أنا نرجو لراحتنا من

هُ سريعاً لطف اللطيف الخبير

هُ سريعاً لطف اللطيف الخبير

Yet we hope, for our relief from

But I hope for our comfort soon

Him, for the swift kindness of the Gentle, the All-Aware.

From Him the kindness of the All-knowing, All-gentle

يسرح الطرف من أخيه ومنهُ

The gaze roams over his brother and him,

The eye roams from one brother to another

Between a monkey and a radiant full moon.
