    A beaming, clamorous cloud—thunderclouds moan

In its two flanks, and lightning darts about.

    لم يدر سائقهن كيف يسوق

    Its foremost clouds blocked the way of those behind;

Their driver did not know how to drive them.

So it lay still; its milkers were aided with a rich flow

From its freely flowing milk-ducts and veins.

The east wind breathed within it, and there burst forth

From it its kidney-like cloud-masses; its hide was split open.

At last, when the lowlands of the open country were paid

Their dues on its behalf, dues upon dues,

Its water-bearing camels began dragging their waterskins

Over the hills, their waterskins split open.

And the sorrowful meadow laughed at its downpour,

Until its sealed blossoms burst open.

And its fragrances wafted, so it seemed to be

Musk exhaling fragrance, its pods slit open.

And the lark warbled within it, as though it were

An enraptured, yearning soul finding solace in song.
