وصلَ اهتمامُك بي فخبّرني

وصلَ اهتمامُك بي فخبّرني

بصحيحٍ ما حدّثتُ عن هِمَمِكْ

بصحيحٍ ما حدّثتُ عن هِمَمِكْ

Your concern for me reached me and told me

Your care for me has arrived, so inform me

the truth of what I had been told about your lofty aims.

Of the truth of what I've said about your concerns

وعلمتُ أني صرْتُ منتَظماً

وعلمتُ أني صرْتُ منتَظماً

في سِلْكِ مَنْ أعليْتُ خدَمِكْ

في سِلْكِ مَنْ أعليْتُ خدَمِكْ

And I knew that I had been strung

And I knew I had become organized

on the thread of your servants whom I had exalted.

Among those you have exalted your servants

فعلِقْتُ منكَ بحبلِ معرفةٍ

فعلِقْتُ منكَ بحبلِ معرفةٍ

عقَدَ النُهى منها عُرى ذِمَمِكْ

عقَدَ النُهى منها عُرى ذِمَمِكْ

So I clung to a cord of acquaintance from you;

So I clung to the rope of your knowledge

from it, reason tied the loops of your pledges.

Which restraint from it tied the bonds of your blames

فإذا أراكَ الشكرُ روضَتَهُ

فإذا أراكَ الشكرُ روضَتَهُ

فاذكرْ لها ما سحّ من دِيَمِكْ

فاذكرْ لها ما سحّ من دِيَمِكْ

So when gratitude shows you its garden,

So when gratitude shows you its meadow

remember what your steady rains poured upon it.

Remember for it what adorned your abode

جاء الرسولُ بما بعثت به

جاء الرسولُ بما بعثت به

من جودِك الأوفى ومن كرمِكْ

من جودِك الأوفى ومن كرمِكْ

The messenger came with what you sent,

The messenger came with what you sent

from your fullest bounty and your generosity.

Of your most faithful generosity and your generosity

وافي بمعتصميه فوَفى

وافي بمعتصميه فوَفى

ليقينَ مُستندٍ الى عِصَمِكْ

ليقينَ مُستندٍ الى عِصَمِكْ

Complete with its two safeguards, it lived up

Loyal to those who seek refuge in you, so he was loyal

to the confidence of one relying on your protection.

To the certainty of one who relies on your protection

فكأن مستندٌ أوده درق

فكأن مستندٌ أوده درق

قرنت لتمنع يومَ مُقْتَحمِكْ

قرنت لتمنع يومَ مُقْتَحمِكْ

So the support for his bent frame seemed to be shields,

So it is as if a coat of mail I love

joined to defend on the day of your assault.

You have paired to prevent the day of your opponent

والخشكنانك كالأسنّة قد

والخشكنانك كالأسنّة قد

ثُنِيتْ بطَعْنِكَ يومَ منْهزَمَكْ

ثُنِيتْ بطَعْنِكَ يومَ منْهزَمَكْ

And the khushkanānak pastries are like spearheads that have

And spears like tongues have

been bent by your thrusts on the day of your rout.

Been bent by your stabbing the day you were defeated

وكأنما الحلواء قد عُقِدَتْ

وكأنما الحلواء قد عُقِدَتْ

من ذلكَ الموصوفِ من شِيَمِكْ

من ذلكَ الموصوفِ من شِيَمِكْ

And it is as though the sweets had been set

And as if twisted sweets have been tied

from that trait of yours already described.

From that described from your traits

فاحت كنشْرِكَ في يدَيْ كلِمي

فاحت كنشْرِكَ في يدَيْ كلِمي

وحَلَتْ كخلقك في يدَيْ كلمكْ

وحَلَتْ كخلقك في يدَيْ كلمكْ

They were fragrant as your good name in the hands of my words,

So it shone like your scattering in my hands a word

and sweet as your character in the hands of your words.

And settled like your creation in my hands your words

ودعاءُ عبدِك وهو غايةُ ما

ودعاءُ عبدِك وهو غايةُ ما

في وُسْعِ منْ جازاكَ عن نِعَمكْ

في وُسْعِ منْ جازاكَ عن نِعَمكْ

And your servant's prayer—the utmost that lies

And the prayer of your servant, which is the utmost

within the power of one repaying your favors—is:

That one you have rewarded with your blessings can do

يا ربِّ سلِّمْ لي أبا حسن

يا ربِّ سلِّمْ لي أبا حسن

ما هزّ ريحَك مِعْطَفي سلَمِكْ

ما هزّ ريحَك مِعْطَفي سلَمِكْ

O Lord, keep Abu Hasan safe for me,

O Lord deliver to me Abu Hasan

as long as your breeze sways your acacia's two boughs.

As long as the wind of you has stirred my cloak of peace
