لولا أَبو الحَسَنِ المُهَذَّبُ لم يكُنْ

لولا أَبو الحَسَنِ المُهَذَّبُ لم يكُنْ

لي في البريِّةِ كُلِّها من ذاكِرِ

لي في البريِّةِ كُلِّها من ذاكِرِ

Were it not for Abu al-Hasan al-Muhadhdhab, there would be

Had it not been for Abu al-Hasan the refined

No one in all creation to remember me.

I would not have in the whole wilderness

مَوْلًى توالَى فَخْرُهُ فَقَدِ اغْتَدَى

مَوْلًى توالَى فَخْرُهُ فَقَدِ اغْتَدَى

يروي الرئاسَةَ كابراً عن كابِر

يروي الرئاسَةَ كابراً عن كابِر

A patron whose glory has endured; indeed, he has come to

A loyal friend whose pride his excellence acquired

Transmit leadership, eminent man from eminent man.

He quenches the leadership generously from a generous one

ولقد وَدِدْتُ وما وَدِدْتُ فِرَاقَهُ

ولقد وَدِدْتُ وما وَدِدْتُ فِرَاقَهُ

أَنى أَكونُ لديك يابا الطَّاهرِ

أَنى أَكونُ لديك يابا الطَّاهرِ

And indeed I wished—yet did not wish to part from him—

And I have missed, and however much I missed, his departure

That I might be with you, O Abu al-Tahir.

Where can I be near you, O immaculate father

فكِلاكُمَا لي مَلْجَأٌ وافَيْتٌهٌ

فكِلاكُمَا لي مَلْجَأٌ وافَيْتٌهٌ

فأَمِنْتُ فيهِ من الزَّمانِ الجائرِ

فأَمِنْتُ فيهِ من الزَّمانِ الجائرِ

For both of you are a refuge for me, to which I have come,

For both of you are to me a fulfilling refuge

And within it I was safe from tyrannical Time.

In which I felt secure from the unjust times

فاخصُصْ أَخاكَ أَبا المعالي كلّها

فاخصُصْ أَخاكَ أَبا المعالي كلّها

بتحيّةٍ من وقال أيضاً:

So single out your brother, Abu al-Ma'ali—father of all honors—

So dedicate to your brother Abu al-Maali entirely
