The verses of the poems of al-Yatīmah

Verses of the orphan's poems

are the virgin offspring of age-old thoughts.

First fruits of ancient thoughts

ماتوا وعاشتْ بعدَهُمْ

ماتوا وعاشتْ بعدَهُمْ

فلذاك سُمّيَتْ اليَتيمَهْ

فلذاك سُمّيَتْ اليَتيمَهْ

They died, and she lived on after them;

They died and she lived after them

and so she was named “the Orphan.”

Thus was she called the orphan
