لهاshe has ناظرٌan eye فيin ذُرىheights ناضِرٍa fresh, radiant one
لها ناظرٌ في ذُرى ناضِرٍ
كماjust as رُكِّبَwas mounted السنُّthe spearhead فوقabove القناةِthe spear shaft
كما رُكِّبَ السنُّ فوق القناةِ
She has an eye high upon a fresh, radiant form,
Like a spearhead mounted atop the shaft.
لوَتْshe twisted حينwhen ولّتshe turned away لناtoward us جيدَهاher neck
لوَتْ حين ولّت لنا جيدَها
فأيُّso what حياةٍlife بدَتْappeared منfrom وفاةِdeath
فأيُّ حياةٍ بدَتْ من وفاةِ
As she turned away, she twisted her neck toward us—
What life, then, appeared from death!
كماjust as ذُعِرwas startled الظبيُthe gazelle منby قانصٍa hunter
كما ذُعِر الظبيُ من قانصٍ
ففرّso it fled وكرّرand repeated فيin الإلتِفاتِlooking back
ففرّ وكرّر في الإلتِفاتِ
Like a gazelle startled by a hunter,
That fled and kept looking back.
