يا من تَكَفَّلَ في النَّقُوعِ تكلُّفاً

يا من تَكَفَّلَ في النَّقُوعِ تكلُّفاً

ليسَ النقوعُ لِعلَّةٍ بنَفُوع

ليسَ النقوعُ لِعلَّةٍ بنَفُوع

O you who took affected pains over the infusion,

O you who undertook with pretense to help me when I stumbled

The infusion is of no benefit for an ailment.

Stumbling is not caused by defectiveness in the legs

ما كُنْتُ تفرَحُ حيثُ كَنْتُ مُحَلِّقاً

ما كُنْتُ تفرَحُ حيثُ كَنْتُ مُحَلِّقاً

فَأَقُولَ أَحْزَنَهُ عَلَيَّ وقُوعي

فَأَقُولَ أَحْزَنَهُ عَلَيَّ وقُوعي

You did not rejoice when I was soaring,

You were not happy when I was flying high

So that I might say, “My fall has made him grieve for me.”

So I say, my falling has saddened him

أَلهاكَ صاحِبُكَ الجديدُ ورُبَّما

أَلهاكَ صاحِبُكَ الجديدُ ورُبَّما

تُرِكَ القديمُ لِعِلَّةِ المَرْقُوع

تُرِكَ القديمُ لِعِلَّةِ المَرْقُوع

Your new companion has distracted you, and sometimes

Your new friend has distracted you, and perhaps

The old one is discarded for the fault of being patched.

The old one was abandoned for the reason of being cast off
