يا أوّلاً في كل عدٍّ

يا أوّلاً في كل عدٍّ

وجماعةً في شخصِ فردِ

وجماعةً في شخصِ فردِ

O first in every reckoning,

O first in every count

And a multitude in a single person,

And a group in one individual

ومُجلّياً كل الخطو

ومُجلّياً كل الخطو

بِ بكوكَبَيْ جِدٍّ وجَدِّ

بِ بكوكَبَيْ جِدٍّ وجَدِّ

And dispeller of all misfortunes

And gatherer of all steps

With the twin stars of diligence and good fortune,

With the two stars of effort and bounty

ومرفّعي من كلّ غَو

ومرفّعي من كلّ غَو

رٍ كنتُ أسكنُه ونجْدِ

رٍ كنتُ أسكنُه ونجْدِ

And who raises me from every lowland

And lifter of me from every valley

I used to dwell in, and every highland,

I used to inhabit and ruggedness

ومقابِلي من فكره

ومقابِلي من فكره

وقريضِه بلظًى وندِّ

وقريضِه بلظًى وندِّ

And who greets me, through his thought

And answerer from his thought

And verse, with flame and perfume:

And poetry with softness and bounty

أنا لا أمُتُّ إليك في ال

أنا لا أمُتُّ إليك في ال

إحسانِ لي إلا بودّي

إحسانِ لي إلا بودّي

I have no claim upon you for

I do not die to you in benevolence

Kindness to me except through my affection.

Except in my love

فأفِضْ عليّ رداءَ عف

فأفِضْ عليّ رداءَ عف

وِكَ في الذي أخفي وأُبدي

وِكَ في الذي أخفي وأُبدي

So spread over me the mantle of your pardon

So bestow upon me the cloak of your pardon

For what I conceal and what I reveal.

In what I hide and make obvious

وانظُرْ إليّ بعين مو

وانظُرْ إليّ بعين مو

لًى صافحٍ عن ذنبِ عَبْدِ

لًى صافحٍ عن ذنبِ عَبْدِ

And look upon me with the eye of a master

And look at me with the eye of

Who overlooks a servant's sin.

An intimate overlooking the sin of a servant

واقبَلْ شفيعَ مودّةٍ

واقبَلْ شفيعَ مودّةٍ

لم يقلِهِ أحدٌ برَدِّ

لم يقلِهِ أحدٌ برَدِّ

And accept affection as an intercessor,

And accept the intercessor of affection

Whom no one has scorned with a refusal.

That no one has said with coldness

وأعِدْ عليّ بشاشةً

وأعِدْ عليّ بشاشةً

كانت على الأربابِ بَعْدي

كانت على الأربابِ بَعْدي

And restore to me the smiling welcome

And promise me with delight

Shown to the lords after me.

That was upon the lords after me

فلقد ظمِئْتُ وفي انبسا

فلقد ظمِئْتُ وفي انبسا

طِك بالطّلاقةِ عذْبُ وِرْدِ

طِك بالطّلاقةِ عذْبُ وِرْدِ

For I have grown thirsty, and in your openness,

For I became thirsty and in your

With its cheerfulness, lies a draught of sweet water.

Falling I find pleasant and cool water

إن لم تكُنْ جمّاً لديْ

إن لم تكُنْ جمّاً لديْ

كَ مياهُها فاسمَحْ بثَمْدِ

كَ مياهُها فاسمَحْ بثَمْدِ

If you do not have an abundance

If your clouds do not have

Of its waters, then grant a little.

Its waters then let me enjoy a sip

واسلَمْ لحالَيْ سطوةٍ

واسلَمْ لحالَيْ سطوةٍ

وسماحةٍ تُردي وتُجْدي

وسماحةٍ تُردي وتُجْدي

And may you live on in your twin states of might

And leave my state of power

And generosity—the one slaying, the other enriching.

And generosity that cast down and raise up
