O Ali, whom they named Ali—

a name that spoke of loftiness.

You are like water, except that you are not clear,

and for water to forsake clarity is shameful.

What advantage do friends have if you

    regard them as enemies?

Each day brings a new guise,

    not approved by companions.

You have changed your colors, O sun, until

I said, 'You have been clothed in a chameleon's skin.'
