يقولُ خدّي روضةٌ

يقولُ خدّي روضةٌ

ترتعُ فيها المُقَلُ

ترتعُ فيها المُقَلُ

He says, “My cheek is a garden

My cheek says it's a garden

where eyes graze.”

Where hearts rest, tranquil and serene

فقلتُ ما أقبحَ ما

فقلتُ ما أقبحَ ما

جئتَ به يا رجلُ

جئتَ به يا رجلُ

So I said, “How ugly is what

I said what an ugly thing

you have come up with, O man!

You have brought, o man

لو كان ورداً لم يكُنْ

لو كان ورداً لم يكُنْ

يسكنُ فيه جُعَلُ

يسكنُ فيه جُعَلُ

If it were a rose, there would not be

If it were but a rose

a dung beetle dwelling in it.”

No beetles would therein be seen
