وأهيفand a slender-waisted youth أبقىhe left intact منof طِلابيَmy longing كلَّهُall of it
وإنand although كانhe was قدalready أجْدىhe bestowed favors عليّon me فماyet not أبقىhe spared
And a slender-waisted youth has left all my longing intact;
Though he has bestowed favors on me, he has left nothing of me.
تثنّىhe swayed فلاso do not تنسَforget الغصونَthe branches ولينَهاand their suppleness
ورجّعَand he trilled أصواتاًnotes فلاso do not تذْكُرِmention الوُرْقاthe grey doves
He swayed—so do not forget the branches and their suppleness;
And he trilled notes—so do not mention the grey doves.
وأعْجَبُand I marvel إذwhen تحتثُّurges on يمناهُhis right hand طارَهُhis tambourine
فيسمَعُهاso one hears it رعداًas thunder ويُبصِرُهاand one sees it بَرْقاas lightning
And I marvel when his right hand spurs his tambourine on:
One hears it as thunder and sees it as lightning.
