    And a beardless youth, tying his girdle,

    [Wording unclear:] Was a beardless youth apportioned within him—or death?

    ما خلتُها لابسةً عسجدا

    He bares to me a silvery back;

    I had not imagined it clothed in gold.

    My hand carried saliva to a door,

    And returned as he sought guidance.

    Then he said to me, “Look at its ways:

    It has already anointed my palate before I bear witness.”
