    Your newborn, O house of Ya‘qub, has stars

    of good fortune that need no astrologer's conjecture.

    Before the birth feast, a praise-poet races ahead of him,

    with a jewel from every well-strung necklace.

    So congratulations on a full moon that shone; and only

    with Hunayn's two slippers did your blind detractor return.

    By my life, your child's innate excellence has indeed shone!

    So how noble you are—honor to you, then honor once more!

    Blessed is He who has blessed the house of Ya‘qub

    by His will, from those yet to come to those of old.

    على آخر إرث الوزارة ينتمي

    For, in the first, Yusuf has the inheritance of prophethood;

    through the last, he traces descent from the inheritance of the vizierate.

    فلم يبق عندي رخصة في التيمم

    I sought out generous men, and your seas overflowed;

    so I have no dispensation left for dry ablution.
