حللت بمصر عن الحاكمين

كأنَّا ذَوي نسبٍ مبهج

كأنَّا ذَوي نسبٍ مبهج

You have settled in Egypt on behalf of the judges,

I analyzed the rulers of Egypt

As though we were of a gladdening lineage.

As if we were of splendid lineage

إمامَ التقى دُمْ لنا مرتجًى

إمامَ التقى دُمْ لنا مرتجًى

وما باب فضلك بالمرتج

وما باب فضلك بالمرتج

O imam of piety, remain a source of hope for us;

The leader of piety, shed for us blood

And the door of your bounty is not shut.

Yet the door of your grace is not barred

فليس الدقيق كمثل الجليل

فليس الدقيق كمثل الجليل

وليس العلليّ كالخزرجي

وليس العلليّ كالخزرجي

For the small is not like the great,

So fine flour is not like pearl barley

Nor is al-ʿAlalī like al-Khazrajī.

And the sublime is not like the lowly
