أشبعت أكباد أولادي وأعينهم

أشبعت أكباد أولادي وأعينهم

من الشوا ولقد كانوا ذوي قرم

You have sated my children's livers and their eyes

I filled the hearts and eyes of my children

With roast meat; they had indeed been craving it.

With longing, though they were already filled with yearning.

حتَّى لقد حسدوا جيران بابكمُ

حتَّى لقد حسدوا جيران بابكمُ

وقيل بشراكُم يا جيرة العلم

وقيل بشراكُم يا جيرة العلم

So much so that they envied the neighbors at your gate,

So much so that our neighbors envied us

And it was said: “Glad tidings to you, O neighbors of the banner!”

And it was said: Good tidings to you, O neighbors of knowledge.
