حوَيت ذُرا المجد لما حويت

فنون العلوم وأفنانها

You embraced the glory when you embraced

The arts of knowledge and its masters.

وصغت المعاني كزهر النجوم

فبوَّأك السعد كيوانها

You captured meanings like flowers of stars,

So fortune established you as its pillar.

ومرتبة الدّست أقررتها

ولا زلت يا عين إنسانها

You affirmed the rank of excellence,

And remained, O eye, its human embodiment!

إذا ما مددت لحاظ اليراع

أنمتَ السيوف وأجفانها

Whenever you extend the gaze of awe,

You awaken swords and their sheaths.

وأذكرت مصر الثنا الفاضليّ

وأخفت دمشقك نيسانها

And you recalled cultured Egypt,

And concealed your Damascus in its April.

وأرضيت في الخلق خلاَّقهم

وفي دولة الملك سلطانها

You satisfied in people their Creator,

And in the state, its Sultan.

فأعظم بها دولة قدَّمت

ك فآنست في الفضلِ أعيانها

So you made the state's power greatest

By your excellence, and brought intimacy to its notables.

وأعطى لك الشعر ديوانه

وحمَّلت بالنثر ديوانها

Poetry gave you its collection,

And prose loaded you with its collection.

أقول مع الاختصار الذي

تحسن للنفس بنيانها

I say, with the refinement that

Suits the soul's composition:

تهنّ السيادة يا صدرها

وملك العلا يا سليمانها

Long live supremacy, O its core!

And the kingdom of sublime knowledge, O its Solomon!
