Who will bring her to me, a beauty whose eloquent loveliness

    outshines Bedouin Arabs and non-Arabs?

she meets you as a charging Shem and a Ham.

Like Shams al-Din's lines within his pages,

    which assail enemies with annihilation.

They do harm to heresy, or harvest guidance

as fruit on branches of pens.

Sovereign in delightful learning, with a family

emblazoned with the poets' treasured verses.

    تسلم وعيشك من أذى الأيام

    Hope said, "Offer greetings at his gates;

you will be safe—by your life—from the harm of days."

So I fulfilled a duty like prayer, offering salutation,

and entered the gardens of bliss in peace.
