برغمto the chagrin of العدىthe foes إناindeed we فقدناكwe have lost you أوحداًpeerless
برغم العدى إنا فقدناك أوحداً
إذاwhen اجتمعتassembled أربابmen of فضلmerit وسؤددand eminence
إذا اجتمعت أرباب فضل وسؤدد
To the foes’ chagrin, we have lost you, peerless
When men of merit and eminence assembled.
دعتكsummoned you المناياdeath فاقتفيتso you followed سبيلهاits path
دعتك المنايا فاقتفيت سبيلها
وتلكand that سبيلٌa path لستyou are not فيهاon it بأوحدalone
وتلك سبيلٌ لست فيها بأوحد
Death summoned you, and you followed its path;
And that is a path on which you are not alone.
