  1. ظلم الزمان فما ألمتُ بظلمه

    شيئاً وصادف طائراً متوطنا

    Time wronged me, yet I felt no pain at its injustice

    at all; and it encountered a bird settled at home.

  2. وغدا يهدِّدني بمحزن خطبه

    هيهات يدري الحزن من عرف الهنا

    And it began threatening me with its grievous calamity—

    How could one who has known bliss ever know sorrow?
