فلستُ عن مدحِهِ أُعوَّق
The minister’s generosity has set a collar around my neck.
The minister's generosity adorned my neck,
So I am not held back from praising him.
Yet I am not deterred from praising him.

لا غَرْوَ أن يسجع المطوَّق
I coo in praise of his eminence.
I compose poetry singing his highest virtues,
No wonder the collared one should coo.
No wonder the adorned composes poetry.
